Aircon Installation Singapore — Installation Beats the Brand

Most people shop for the aircon by brand and BTU rating first. But installation quality is what actually determines whether the unit performs and lasts. Bad pipe routing, an incorrect refrigerant charge, or a poorly sloped drain line causes the majority of "faulty aircon" complaints we get called out for — not a defect in the unit itself.

We install as part of renovation projects, where piping can be concealed before ceilings and walls are closed up, and as standalone retrofit jobs into flats that are already completed.

If a quote doesn't mention a vacuum test, ask why. It's the step that catches trapped air and moisture in the line before gas is charged in — skip it, and the unit is more likely to ice up or fail early.

Where We Install

LocationWhat's Involved
HDB FlatsSystem 2, 3 or 4 setups, coordinated with HDB's aircon ledge and bracket placement rules
Condo UnitsInstallation coordinated with MCST guidelines on external unit placement and piping
Landed PropertyLarger multi-zone systems, often with longer piping runs between floors
Commercial & OfficeDucted or multi-split systems sized for occupancy and equipment heat load
Renovation Concealed PipingPiping routed through the ceiling or wall before plastering, for a clean finish with no visible trunking
Retrofit InstallationSurface-mounted trunking in an already-completed flat, when concealment isn't possible

Signs Your Current Aircon Needs Attention

  • Weak or uneven cooling — often low refrigerant gas or a dirty coil, not necessarily a broken unit
  • Water leaking from the indoor unit — almost always a blocked or poorly sloped condensate drain
  • Ice forming on the coil — a sign of low gas, restricted airflow, or a poor original installation
  • Unusual noise on start-up — loose mounting brackets or a fan issue
  • Rising electricity bills with no change in usage — the compressor is working harder to compensate for an underlying fault
  • A gas smell near the outdoor unit — stop use and get it inspected; this is a genuine safety issue

Any of these can point to an installation issue rather than the unit reaching end of life. Worth a proper inspection before replacing outright.

How We Install

  1. Site assessment & BTU calculation — room size, ceiling height, sun exposure and occupancy determine the right capacity, not a generic size chart.
  2. Pipe routing plan — concealed within the ceiling or wall during renovation, or surface-mounted trunking for a retrofit into a completed flat.
  3. Bracket and unit mounting — indoor and outdoor units secured to manufacturer spec, with vibration dampening at the outdoor bracket.
  4. Copper piping and vacuum test — the line is vacuum-tested to remove air and moisture before any gas goes in. This is the step most likely to be skipped elsewhere.
  5. Electrical connection — wired in by a licensed electrician, on a dedicated circuit sized for the unit's load.
  6. Commissioning and gas charge verification — refrigerant charge checked against manufacturer spec, cooling performance confirmed before handover.
The vacuum test is the step that gets skipped. It costs perhaps twenty extra minutes on installation day. Skipping it traps moisture and air in the line, which shows up as coil icing or a compressor failure within a year or two — by which point it looks like a "faulty unit" rather than what it actually was.

What Affects Aircon Installation Cost

Cost DriverDetail
Number of indoor unitsSystem 2, 3, 4 or 5 configurations, priced per indoor unit plus the outdoor condenser
Capacity per unitLarger BTU units for bigger rooms or higher heat load cost more than standard bedroom-sized units
Piping length & concealmentConcealed piping during renovation costs more in labour than surface trunking, but gives a cleaner finish
Brand and model tierEntry-level, mid-range and premium inverter models vary significantly in unit cost
Bracket and mounting complexityHigh floors, awkward outdoor unit access or multi-storey piping runs add labour
Existing wiring adequacyOlder flats may need a dedicated circuit added before the aircon can be safely connected
Old unit disposalRemoval and disposal of an existing unit being replaced

HDB and Condo Considerations

HDB has specific rules on where aircon ledges and brackets can be installed, and on ensuring the outdoor unit's condensate drain doesn't discharge onto a neighbour's unit or common corridor. We plan the outdoor unit position with these rules in mind.

For condos, some MCSTs require approval before installing or relocating an external condenser unit, particularly where it's visible from the facade. We can help identify what your specific MCST requires.

Renovation vs Retrofit Installation

If you're renovating anyway, piping can be routed through the ceiling or wall before plastering and painting — the cleanest option, with no visible trunking. If you're adding or replacing an aircon system in a flat that's already finished, piping is usually run via surface-mounted trunking, since opening up finished ceilings just for pipe routing rarely makes sense on its own.

Questions

Aircon Installation FAQ

How long does aircon installation take?

Typically half a day to a full day per system, depending on the number of indoor units and how much piping needs to be routed or concealed.

Do you install all aircon brands?

Yes — Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, LG, Samsung and other major brands. We can supply the unit or install one you've already purchased.

What size aircon do I need?

It depends on room size, ceiling height, sun exposure and number of occupants. We calculate the BTU requirement at the site visit rather than using a generic chart, since undersizing or oversizing both cause problems.

Can you install aircon without renovation?

Yes, retrofit installation is possible in an already-completed flat, though piping is usually surface-mounted through trunking rather than concealed in the ceiling or wall.

Do you provide servicing after installation?

Yes, we provide gas top-up, chemical wash and general servicing after installation, and can set up a maintenance schedule.

Why does my aircon leak water?

Usually a blocked or poorly sloped condensate drain pipe — this is an installation issue, not a fault with the unit itself, and is one of the most common complaints we get called out for.

Is a vacuum test necessary before gas charging?

Yes. It removes air and moisture from the refrigerant line before the gas is charged in. Skipping this step is a common cause of coil icing and early compressor failure within one to two years.
